Angola: 2005/206 Luanda: Everything is available - AVGAS only with cash (USD). Airport staff are not especially friendly. MW Botswana 2005/206 Gaborone: Everything is there. AVGAS by BP. You need special agreement to make local flights - specially over the town - talk to the briefing office first. MW Burkina faso 2005/206 Ougadougou: The aeroclub was very helpful, and parking there was for free. Richard, the chairman, have a nice hotel "Ricardo". MW Central African Republic Bangui FEFF Fuel: Expensive and take it or leave it. Drums filled from large tankers. 400 litres cost USD$733 Met: Available at met office on airport. Hotel: Hotel du Centre Handler: Everyone is a "handler" General: A terrible place. Everyone wants to be paid and in particular the police. The only help I received was from a friendly Air traffic controller I found at the tower. BF Djibouti (HDAM) August 2003 Fuel in drums Handling cheap Hotel expensive and uncomfortable... HG Egypt Cairo (HECA) August 2003 Fuel vailable in Cairo and Alexandria but nowhere else in Egypt. Handling very expensive:US$1370.00!! HG Adis Abeba (HAAB) August 2003 Fuel: AVGAS in drums Handling: US$ 100.00 HG Gabon Libreville: There was AVGAS even they said there was not. They had to call SHELL or BP in TOWN to find out it was there. In case of emergency there is a French company that have drums stored for themselves - price will be high. MW Ivory Cost Abidjan DIAP Fuel: AVGAS by tanker Met: Good service at airport but hard to find. Hotel: Novotel was OK Handler: Mr Williams very helpful. I should have tipped him more. Tel: 23 37 78 77 General: An OK place and I recommend getting a handler. Most places would not take my travellers cheques and I found it hard to get cash. BF Kenya Nairobi (Wilson Airport) HKNW 2002 Clearance: Not required, but to fly internal in Kenya is very complicated. Approval was required and I had to go to the Civil Aviation Authority at the main airport. Took a whole day to arrange. Fuel: Colin Davies runs a very helpful maintenance and AVGAS facility next to the Aero Club. Met: Available at the airport. Hotel: Go to East African Aero Club. Handler: Not required. BF Malawi August 2003 New airport, cheap fuel, no handling fee, good accomodation. HG 2005/2006 Lilongwe: A Flight permit was given by phone. Fine airport. Helpful staff at briefing office. AVGAS was there. MW Likoma Island : with a 900 m gravel/sand RWY. Expect goats, cows and people at the RWY. Land on 19 (upslope) - takeoff on 01 (downslope - even with a little tailwind). After some rain there are a lot of small stones on RWY - USE GRAVEL RWY TAKEOFF TECNIQUE !!! You can stay for 5 USD pr. Night in a hut at Mango Drift. No landingfee. MW Mzuzu: Airport OK - AVGAS is available with agreement with private company who have some stored there - 1,5 USD pr. Liter. Customs available with prior notice to the airport manager - who is VERY helpful. MW Mali 2005/206 Bamako: Everything is there - request AVGAS some hours before you need it !! They will try to let you pay for a visa - even you have one in your passport !! MW Mopti: Very fine small Airport - only a little AVGAS was available (drums)- price 2,8 USD/liter. MW Timbuktou: Everybody wants money !!! Only little AVGAS was available (drums) - price 2,8 USD/liter MW Mauritania: Nouadibou: OK airport, AVGAS was there even the NOTAM said it was not, The hotel is very close, airport staff offered to bring us there for 40 EURO !!!! 3 is more than enough. MW Moroco 2005/2006 Marakesh: Fine airport, not expensive, difficult to find out how to go out to your plane - nobody knows what you are talking about. Apron people will try to take some money for doing NOTHING. 10 EUR for a taxi to town. MW Essauira: MW Mosambique: 2005/2006 Maputo: AVGAS is there, but expect to WAIT. Briefing office is very helpful. MW Vilankulos: Nice place, AVGAS with BP-card, Very help full if you want to fly to the islands outside the coast - even you don't have permission in advance from CAA!!! MW Bazaruto Island: There are 2 airstrips on the island, Indigo bay and Bazaruto Lodge. Bazaruto Lodge has 800-900 m asphalt on the northern part of the island. Very fine. No AVGAS. MW Benguerra Island Have a 800-900 m. grass rwy MW Namibia: 2005/2006 Ondangwa: Nice and relaxed place to visit, helpful staff, AVGAS available, customs etc. Hotel Cresta had fine service and free pickup from airport. MW Mokuti Lodge: 700 m Asphalt + a lot of gravel runway. AVGAS available with BP-carnet. 50 m. walk to the lodge. MW Swakopmundt: NEW fine ASPHALT runway - TWY is sand. Nice place - helpful tower. AVGAS available. MW Windhoek: Fine service at apron and in Terminal. A little difficult to find out where to pay the landing fee etc. (in a corner at some airportbuilding) MW Sao Tome: 2005/206 NO AVGAS MW Senegal: 2005/206 St Louis: Fine airport, AVGAS only available in drums with contact to Jannic (owner of Hotel de la Poste) - he is very helpful, and have one of the 2 only planes there. MW Dakar: Everything is there - parking for free at the aeroclub is possible. MW South Africa: 2005/2006 Lanseria: Airport OK - even some say its unfriendly. MW Rand: The place is OK. Maintenance can be done by Placo - they have their own hangar there. It can take some time before they bring the fuel. MW Port Alfred: 4 fine grass RWY's, Very nice atmosphere - 43 airschool run the airport. VERY CHEAP PLACE TO LAND AND PARK. MW Vilankulo: Airport OK, AVGAS available from BP, VERY helpful briefing office, if you want to fly to the islands on the coast. MW Beira: Aiirport OK, AVGAS from BP - you will be disappointed if you expect good food in the cafeteria!! MW Sudan August 2003 NO AVGAS HG Tanzania: 2005/2006 Zanzibar: Fine airport - nice staff. Expensive: Landing permit fee, Another permit fee, Navigation fee, airport tax, security fee, landing- and parking fee. For every landing in Tanzania we had to pay 100 USD to CAA just for the permitnumber. AVGAS from BP. MW Kilimanjaro: Nice private airport. Helpful staff. Very much outside town. A taxi to Arusha or Moshi cost 50 USD - official rate. The trick is to get a taxi to the T-junktion 5 km from the airport, and say you want to take the bus (35 km) the rest of the way - before you reach the T-junktion he will offer you to bring you to town for 10 UDS more. In Moshi you can stay at Buffalo Hotel - a clean and OK budget hotel - for 15 USD incl. breakfast. MW Togo: 2005/2006 Lome: Park at the Aeroclub - they are very helpful - and its for free. AVGAS available. MW Uganda Entebe HUEN Avgas available Met: Available at airport Hotel: Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel. I enjoyed my short stay. Handler: One found me and was helpful. General: Good place to visit. BF Zambia: 2005/2006 Livingstone: Mixed military and civil airport. AVGAS on BP carnet. Helpful briefing office, Bring a copy of your permit if possible - the airforce are controlling the airspace, and give the permits. MW Zimbabwe: 2005/2006 Victoria falls Fine airport. The staff is VERY HELPFUL !!! They will help you if you want to fly over the falls!! NO FUEL !!!, You will be asked to register your fuel quantity together with the security, who advice you to remove all you can from the plane, and lock it properly. Don't be scared! You will probably have to WAIT FOR CUSTOMS AND IMMIGARTION - sometimes hours. Passenger fee is 30 USD EACH - on the top of a lot of other fees.
